Application process

The health insurance application process can be a frustrating experience for some people. By taking some simple steps, this process can be made simple. Take the following steps before starting the application:

  1. Get quotes from a licensed, qualified insurance agent.
  2. Discuss with the agents the types of plans available and the advantage and disadvantages of those plans.
  3. Have your medical information available for the last ten years, including diagnosis, name, address, and phone number of medical provider. Please all have available all medications and dosages.
  4. Have your billing information available (ie checking, savings, or credit card info)
  5. Once the particular plan and company had been chosen, you will click on the blue apply button in the quote comparison email the agent sent you.
  6. You will next see a page asking you whether you want to apply online or download an application. You will select apply online. Paper applications are still available but are cumbersome, need to be mailed and greatly slow down the speed of issuance. Applications will take several weeks instead of several days.
  7. Once you arrive at the company's website you will be asked to create an username and password.
  8. Next you will fill out your personal information.
  9. The next section are medical questions designed to determine you current health.
  10.  The billing section comes next. You will be asked how you would like to pay for the intial visit as well as the ongoing payments. Billing periods are available montly or quarterly. You can have your bill sent to your snail mail box, but typically the insurer charges a small extra fee or that.
  11.  You will then read and sign several disclosures. Then you click submit.
  12.  Next you will see a congratulations page. The application has at this point been delivered to the Individual Underwriter for further review.
  13.  Your agent will be updated with the progress of your application and will help with any further requirements or requests.
